​What are the differences between flanges and flange blind plates?

Pipes are generally connected by some pipe fittings that we call "flanges". In addition to flanges, there is another type of pipe fitting called flange blind plates. For novice purchasers who have just entered the industry, they are not very clear about the differences between the two.

First, the characteristics are different

A flange without a hole in the middle is called a flange blind plate. Its materials include carbon steel, alloys, stainless steel, plastics, etc., and it is mainly used to seal the front end of pipelines. Its function is the same as that of the valve head and pipe cover, but the blind plate seal is detachable and the seal of the head cannot be opened again. It has excellent sealing performance and can play roles such as isolation, cutting and sealing. It is usually used as a means of constant isolation when completely separated. The blind board is a solid board with a handle. Generally speaking, flange blind plates are more convenient as isolation systems used under normal conditions. Yellow throttling rings can be used to fill the blind plate installation gap on the pipeline.

A flange is a pipe connection component, usually with a hole at the end of the pipe. During the joining process, it needs to be fixed with bolts. The flange is sealed with a gasket, which can also serve as a temporary function during the test. In pipeline engineering, flange plates are the most common components. Generally speaking, flanges can be classified into threaded flanges, welded flanges and clamping flanges according to their connection methods. Low-pressure pipes can adopt threaded connection flanges and welded flanges, and the pressure can exceed 4kg.

Second, the applications are different

1. Flanges have excellent performance and are widely used in basic projects such as chemical engineering, construction engineering, petroleum, health care, pipelines, and fire protection.

2. During the pipe strength test or sealing test, the blind plate in the initial start-up preparation stage shall not be used simultaneously with the connection device. Install blind plates at the connection points of equipment and pipelines. All kinds of material pipes should be connected to the boundary area outside the boundary zone. Install a blind plate on the shut-off valve when the equipment stops working.
